Neuropsychology in Barcelona: assessment and rehabilitation of cognitive functions
Neuropsychology is the clinical speciality that studies the relationship between the brain and behaviour. Its aim is to assess how the functioning of the nervous system is reflected in a person's cognitive, emotional and behavioural abilities, and to design interventions aimed at improving, compensating for or rehabilitating them when they are affected.
At Glasir Salud, neuropsychology occupies a central place in our range of services. It works along two main lines: diagnostic neuropsychological assessment and neuropsychological rehabilitation. Both are available to patients of all ages, from children with suspected neurodevelopmental disorders to older adults with cognitive decline or individuals who have suffered acquired brain injury.
Our clinical neuropsychologists integrate their work with the psychiatry, psychology, speech therapy and occupational therapy team, ensuring a view of the patient that goes beyond the sum of their symptoms, always keeping the functional impact on real life as the guiding horizon.
Areas of work
Neuropsychological Assessment
Neuropsychological assessment is the rigorous clinical exploration process that analyses the state of the main cognitive functions: memory, attention and concentration, executive functions (planning, flexibility, inhibition), language, visuospatial skills and processing speed.
The results are integrated into a detailed clinical report that includes the patient's cognitive profile, differential diagnosis where appropriate, and relevant therapeutic, educational or vocational guidance recommendations.
Available assessments:
- ADHD in children, adolescents and adults
- Dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ADOS-2 / ADI-R)
- High intellectual abilities
- Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementias
- Post-stroke or post-TBI assessment
- Assessment in neurodegenerative diseases (Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, ALS)
- Assessment of cognitive sequelae from oncological treatments (chemobrain)
Neuropsychological Rehabilitation
Neuropsychological rehabilitation is a structured and systematic intervention process aimed at improving affected cognitive functions or developing compensatory strategies that allow the patient to recover their daily functioning.
It is based on the principle of neuroplasticity: the brain's capacity to reorganise itself and create new connections throughout life, especially in response to specific and consistent intervention.
Rehabilitation programmes we offer:
- Post-stroke rehabilitation: memory, attention, executive functions and language
- Cognitive rehabilitation in TBI (traumatic brain injury)
- Cognitive stimulation in mild cognitive impairment and early stages of dementia
- Rehabilitation in multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease
- Neuropsychological intervention in ADHD (executive compensation strategies)
- Language rehabilitation in aphasia (in coordination with speech therapy)
- Intervention in learning difficulties of neuropsychological origin
Child and Adolescent Neuropsychology
Neurodevelopment is a dynamic process that is sensitive to intervention. Early detection of cognitive, attentional or learning difficulties in children and adolescents is key to preventing them from becoming chronic and affecting academic performance, self-esteem and emotional development.
- Assessment and monitoring of neurodevelopment
- Diagnosis of ADHD, ASD, dyslexia and other conditions
- Early cognitive intervention
- Guidance for families and educational centres
- Coordination with neuropaediatrics when the case requires it

Who benefits from neuropsychology?
Children and adolescents
With learning difficulties, ADHD, ASD, attention problems or suspected high abilities.
Adults with brain injury
Following stroke, TBI, cerebral hypoxia or other causes of acquired brain damage.
People with neurological conditions
Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, ALS, epilepsy or other conditions affecting cognition.
Older adults
With cognitive complaints, suspected mild cognitive impairment or incipient dementia.
People with psychiatric disorders
Such as severe depression, schizophrenia or ADHD in adults, where cognition may be compromised.
Oncology patients
With cognitive sequelae from chemotherapy or cranial radiotherapy treatments.

What is the process like at Glasir Salud?
Every neuropsychological process begins with an orientation interview where the reason for consultation, the relevant clinical history and the objectives of the patient and their family are gathered. From there, it is determined whether the next step is an assessment, the direct start of rehabilitation, or a combination of both.
Assessment reports are delivered in a feedback session in which the neuropsychologist explains the results in an accessible way, answers all questions and provides guidance on next steps. If rehabilitation begins, the plan is reviewed periodically using objective progress criteria.
Frequently asked questions
Is neuropsychology the same as psychology?
Not exactly. Neuropsychology is a specialisation within clinical psychology that focuses specifically on the relationship between the brain and cognitive and behavioural functions. A clinical neuropsychologist has additional specific training in neuroscience, cognitive assessment and brain rehabilitation.
Do I need a neuroimaging report (CT scan, MRI) to undergo the assessment?
It is not essential, although if you have imaging results it is useful to bring them. Neuropsychological assessment is an independent clinical procedure that provides functional information that imaging tests do not offer.
Can neuropsychological rehabilitation be done online?
Yes, especially for work on executive functions, memory and attention in adults. For children and for programmes that require specific materials, in-person sessions are generally preferable. We will let you know when designing your plan.
How many rehabilitation sessions are needed? It depends on the diagnosis, severity and objectives. Rehabilitation programmes are usually structured in blocks of 10–20 sessions with intermediate progress assessments. In chronic or degenerative conditions, it may be an ongoing long-term process.

Are neuropsychological reports valid for disability procedures or educational resources?
Yes. Our reports are clinical documents valid for applications for curricular adaptations, early intervention resources, disability assessments and specialist medical guidance.
